ACCESSORIES REPORT: Get On My Back, You Backpack!

This internship’s spring season is about to end. I must admit: I looked for a particular trend all semester long, and I finally found it: the backpack! It is the ultimate trend that is perfect for strutting your campus catwalk, and essentially class, too.

Backpacks were viral on the streets–from small variations to bigger styles. This Fashionista’s backpack glowed when I spotted her. She wore a beige T-shirt, knit, a pair of lace-patch denim shorts, tights and cute black booties, but her smooth caramel backpack rocked it out.

A leather variation, like this Topshop version, upstages the ordinary Jansport backpacks for all the right reasons. When you want to dress up your outfit, this shiny leather gives an extra luxe touch. Also, especially with this Fashionista’s backpack, the traditional school-boy style–with the straps–adds a classy feel.

A backpack is an accessory that works for every season. When you’re not in the mood to carry tons of books, the backpack is your heavenly answer. A backpack–health-wise–keeps your back in shape and your shoulders from hunching or leaning to one side. If you want a durable backpack, follow suit of this Fashionista’s leather version. For a classic pattern, go for this Brandy Melville striped backpack. If you’re into something different, try this fashiondacci clear transparent version. They are trend-worthy!

Spotted: Check out the Topman Designs fall 2013 runway and their oversized backpacks. Inspired by the adventures of traveling, these oversized backpacks featured hip leather flasks, iPod holders and metallic leather detailing.

ACCESSORIES REPORT: The Life Saviour Belt

When your boyfriend jean is too baggy and you need that one accessory that will hold it up….the belt!

ACCESSORIES REPORT: The Life Saviour Belt

Have you ever been in a situation where you buy a pair of jeans and it is a little too big, yet you buy the jeans anyway? In a Fashionista’s world, the perfect solution is to purchase a matching belt that ultimately holds up your jeans around your hips or waist. I’m pretty sure all of us have done this!

But really, what could we do without belts? Belts are a life savior–from adding a final touch to our basic T-shirt and high-waist skirt attire to holding up that “just-a-little-bit-too-big” pair of jeans. Take this Fashionista I spotted as an example. She wore this season’s trendiest pair of boyfriend jean and completed her outfit with the trick of a belt, like this Dotti Cameo version.

I adored this Fashionista’s outfit! She wore a pair of ripped-and-rugged boyfriend jeans with a pair of suede booties, a basic black crop-top, a knit cardigan and an emerald floppy hat. The boyfriend jean is so genius. Your boyfriend’s wardrobe and his denim jeans come in handy when you’re tired of your usual pair of skinny jeans. The baggy silhouette accentuates your legs and gives emphasis to your bottom region.

The belt will help your jeans keep its shape when they become a bit too loose for your body. This Fashionista’s belt–a classic brown colour with a cream plait twist–would work with any style of jeans. A brown-coloured belt keeps your outfit’s colour palette balanced.  It’s not too strong, nor is it too plain either. If she wore a black belt with this particular outfit, her ensemble might have appeared weighed down. A bright pop of colour might have taken away the boyfriend jean’s statement.

In your case, Fashionistas and Fashionistos: remember to style the belt with your particular outfit. Try a few different options. If you want a coloured belt, go for this Remi & Reid orange circle staple belt. Or if you prefer something more edgy, try this Topshop black studded belt. The belt–in all of its simplified glory–can really add that final touch you may need. What is amazing about a belt is that it comes in various shapes, sizes, textures and colour.

Spotted: Want to swap the boyfriend jean for a more formal look? No problem! Wear a metallic belt or a class thin black belt with a pair of tailored pants, like Balmain and Jason Wu‘s fall 2013 ready-to-wear collections. If you’re going for a winter coat or a high-waist skirt, try a long double-sided belt, following suit from the Burberry fall 2013 runway.
